Beach chairs do not only have a long tradition on European beaches. They are especially popular with elder people as they are a safe and comfortable and also romantic piece of beach furniture. Young people or families with children, however, prefer different beach furniture and sun protection variations which provide more freedom of movement. So, one can get tanned on the back and the belly laying or sitting on a chaise. Since chaises are easier to transport and to clean and much cheaper to buy, they have replaced the clumsy beach chair in many holiday regions. In addition, parasols are offered for sun protection or large sun sails are provided to the guests.
In the southern countries where people want to enjoy besides the almost year-round sun also the warm wind, beach chairs would make little sense, since their residents are kind of shielded on three sides but still offered limited sun protection. Here people feel most perfectly well below an airy sun sail or on a beach mat. Beach chairs are usually found on northern beaches in Europe where even in summer a fresh and chilly wind can blow from time to time and staying on the beach in swimsuit is impossible. For hot summer days sun sails and parasols offer additional sun protection on theses beaches as well and are a general must for holiday and beach life from north to south.
